Swan House

This seaside villa was the central design project for HIAA 0100: Introduction to Architectural Design Studio under the instruction of Professor Julian von der Schulenberg.

During the duration of this course, we designed a theoretical home for ourselves in a location of our choice.

    Plage du Luxembourg, France

First, we selected a location and used Adobe Photoshop to clear out an anticipated site for our structure.

Next, we created concept sketches of our house’s roof plan. My intention was to explore the organic curves and illuminations of an architectural structure designed with reference to the surrounding topography.

One very interesting aspect of this home is its directional orientation. In addition to conforming to the natural shape of the land, it is mostly aligned with the cardinal directions. Floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows face directly East and West so that the rising and setting sun create variable and striking lighting conditions within the structure.

Finally, I used Rhino 3D, V-Ray, and Adobe Photoshop to create a rendering of the structure in its intended site as well as a semi-realistic rendering of the building’s simplified interior.
